Problem Statement

A leading terminaling company which was a joint venture between an Indian PSU and a German industry leader who has tank farms across the country wanted to upgrade its Health safety environment and security management systems to incorporate the enhanced requirement of ISO 45001 OHSMS and ISO 14001 EMS. One of the location was its 54 acre site at Uran near Navi Mumbai and its corporate office in Mumbai.

Task

IMPROV was imparted the project to develop a HSES management system as per the requirement of the ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standard, to handhold in training, deploying and further assessment of the management system until certification.

Solution

The terminal operations are a high-risk activities hence QHSES plays a strategic roles in business operations, the organizational goals were already aligned to QHSES values but the management system had to be aligned to the current practices. The prevalent management system was more operational QHSES than a strategic management driven. IMPROV conducted extensive analysis of the current practices and systems. The operations site shortcoming were also identified and a task list of the gap were developed, IMPROV developed new procedures and guidelines required by the management system of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001, the IMPROV team handheld the organization in deployment of the revised management systems processes. The team further conducted through internal audit of the QHSES management system. A team of internal auditors was developed to further enhance the monitoring mechanisms. All the gaps were closed by the organization before proceeding to achieve the desired certification.
