Problem Statement

A leading pharma company listed on the stock market with operation across the country and globally, with 13 plants all over the country and employing more than 30,000 employees wanted to harmonize it entire EHS governance system and cascade it to every personnel across all location and across all functions including the corporate office which was centrally leading the EHS governance system of the entire organization.

Task

IMPROV was tasked to assess the current status of the organization and develop a harmonized management system for environment, health, safety and sustainability spanning across the organization lead by the corporate team.

Solution

It was decided that the management systems of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 were to be adopted as a base requirement for the implementation of the EHSS management system. IMPROV was tasked with implementing these systems at the corporate level and all the locations. IMPROV applied its 6 stage methodology to achieve the objective. The current prevalent systems, practices and rituals were analysed across the locations, the interfaces with the central corporate functions were studies and a broad EHSS system which was harmonized across the entire organization was designed, local site constraints were considered depending on the maturity of the sites and specific elements like training plans, risk assessments were developed to meet the local site constraints as well to meet the larger objective.

The deployment of the management systems was in a phased manner spread over a period of one year, the IMPROV team worked closely with the corporate and site team to design and develop the system. The key manuals and guidelines were developed, certain prevalent process were redesigned to meet the requirement of the standards, by IMPROV team which were approved by the corporate and site team and further implemented. IMPROV team further assessed the implementation of the designed systems viz EHSS systems as per the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards, providing a comprehensive report of the assessment reflecting the gaps or non compliances which were closed by the corporate and site teams. The entire organization underwent an umbrella scheme of certification from a globally leading certification agency which audited the entire organization and certified the organization in the month of march 24.

The organization now has a homogenous EHS management system spanning across the corporate and all its sites. And is on its way towards further maturity. IMPROV is still engaged with the organization for knowledge delivery through various training and assessments.
